ONCE UPON A MIDNIGHT is a feature length, independent Anthology Horror Film comprised of 3 related, horror stories that illuminate the dark side of the human condition in a uniquely haunting and disturbing way. The three stories are: LOLA, THE MADMAN, and SHOCK VALUE. Each of the stories is inspired by works of Roald Dahl (1916 - 1990), Guy de Maupassant (1850 - 1893), and Edgar Allan Poe (1809 - 1849). How is ONCE UPON A MIDNIGHT different from 99% of Horror Movies currently being produced? Gone are the days of classic horror cinema, that featured great genre actors like Boris Karloff , Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Vincent Price; employed well-structured scripts, solid character development and directors that knew how to tell a story visually. Most of today's so called "horror movies" tend to have incredible SFX…. but remove these elaborate computer generated marvels and you are usually left with a very silly film and a very thin plot. The other current trend is unkindly, but justly, referred to as "torture porn." These are horror films that concentrate on cheap shock effects, eye-popping gore, and loads of T&A, usually at the expense of good storytelling. And yet, well made Horror Films seem to be making a comeback, as witnessed by the recent reemergence of England's legendary Hammer Film Productions into the theatrical feature film market, with their new and critically acclaimed, LET ME IN (2010). Dima Ballin, the writer/director of this film, has spent years learning from the great American, European, and Asian auteurs. Now, he is about to create a fresh, tour de force Horror Movie for the modern audience, melding nuanced artistry with shocking sensationalism of Grand Guignol. Mr. Ballin envisions ONCE UPON A MIDNIGHT as a deeply disturbing Horror film with a solid foundation in emotional and psychological truthfulness, to make its "horror" all the more horrifying, as apposed to campy. ONCE UPON A MIDNIGHT is being produced by Diabolique Entertainment, and is currently in pre-production. |
